Fotr Moubarak - from Lebanon

Dear Friends,

In no country like Lebanon in the World the religious holidays take the flavor of universalism. All communities, by law certainly, by tradition surely and most important, by free choice, celebrate and share the values of this great spiritual heritage. It definitely gives Lebanon a specific flavor that reveals the essence of its substance, the core of its message.
Lebanon, a country-message, as it was coined by Sheikh Maurice Gemayel more than 40 years ago and certified by H.H. the Pope Jean-Paul II, is not an intellectual scheme of mind, a political engineering of the future or a social wishful thinking. It is embedded in the very fabric of Lebanon's collective memory and the Lebanese mores. It is expressed in different ways, by sharing the Ramadan daily Iftars, by accommodating our business to the rhythm and tempo of fastening population, and by adapting the implementation of laws in different institutions. Even when our population does not fully understand the meaning of those holidays, its ignorance always is respectful of the holiness of the cultural values and practice.
It simply means that countries are not ideological constructions. They are not either the fruits of a cognitive demarche. Countries are made of genuine feeling of belonging to this history, geography, tradition, values. If Lebanon remains a country against all odds, it is because the Lebanese want it to remain so. Lebanon is neither an accident of history nor a geographical hazard. It is the supreme expression of civilization, which is a message for the unity of civilizations, a unity that is respectful of the diversity of cultures, a unity enshrined in the universal values. Lebanon therefore through its way of life recalled to us during these holidays touches the universe while anchoring the local.
Happy Eid my friends,
All for Lebanon
Lebanon for All
the Universe is simply yours!
